Acclaim for the book:
"Jeff Sheard in his remarkably well-researched text has traced the development and decline of what was a once thriving industry in Nottingham. Local history is what local history is! In his concise and well tempered exploration of local history, Sheard gives us a concise and thoughtful reflection of a once dynamic industry that saw Victorian entrepreneurs shape the face of a thriving nation via its architectural splendour; the pinnacle of this being St Pancras railway station, London. A pinnacle, built from bricks manufactured in the Mapperley Top area of Nottingham. Jeff, not only explores the men that developed the once great industry, but he also reveals the methods and logistics of this once prolific local phenomenon. This fantastically illustrated 96-page tome is an absolute must for any local historian. The illustrations, maps, photographs and graphics are to the point, informative and concise in their delivery of information. Sheard, has without doubt, delivered a triumphal first attempt in his exploration of local history and as such should be warmly applauded".
