Adding Life to Days

Glitz, glamour and…Ghostbusters? It’s the Strictly Learn to Dance Grand Final!

On a gloriously warm and sunny evening in April, as our contestants had one last practice before getting the full Strictly style makeover, guests arrived at The Space – the brand new performing arts centre at Nottingham Girls’ High School – ready for an evening of glitzy, glamorous entertainment.

The evening began with something strange in the neighbourhood as Nikki and Mr Stay Puft (aka James) busted some Cha Cha moves to the Ghostbusters theme – they weren’t afraid of no judges!

Drifting elegantly across the stage, with a graceful rise and fall, Jane and Charlotte followed with a ‘Moon River’ Waltz.

Next up…mother and daughter duo, Nicky & Aylish with their ‘Sweet (and bubbly) Like Cola’ Cha Cha. Nicky is a nurse at the hospice and sees first hand what a difference the money raised from Strictly will make. She adds life to the days of our patients and she certainly added life to our evening!

The final dance of the first half was a bewitching Waltz to the theme from Edward Scissorhands by Ceri and John – they had us all enchanted with an eerie and graceful performance!

With the judges votes for the first dances in, Ceri and John found themselves in the lead but there was a long way to go before the winner could be revealed…

Nikki & James kicked off the second half with a beautiful Waltz to The House of the Rising Sun.  Next, breaking it down to the tune of MC Hammer’s ‘U Can’t Touch This’ was Jane and Charlotte, followed by Nicky and Aylish with a picture perfect Waltz to Ed Sheeran’s Photograph.

Finally, Ceri and John showed us their smoothest moves as they wiggled their hips to Smooth by Santana.

Congratulations to Ceri and John who danced their way to victory with their enchanting Waltz and hip-wriggling Cha Cha.

The evening was compered by Notts TV’s Iain Chambers, who did a fantastic job putting the contestants at ease, getting the audience dabbing  and chanting the Strictly theme tune as well as our very own Notts Hospice chant! Thank you Iain, it’s a 10-10-10 from us!

Thank you to the following people – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Nottingham Girls’ High School, Mary Knight of the Roy and Mary Knight Dance School, the wonderful show dancers – Rose & George, Double Take and Ian & Mary, Iain Chambers, Lisa Taylor-Ward, our fabulous contestants, everyone who volunteered on the evening, our Strictly judges and, of course, the amazing audience!
