Planning your own event
We love hearing about the amazing events people organise to support the hospice. Our supporters have arranged coffee mornings, ladies lunches, dinner parties, choir concerts, dance contests, dress down days, quiz nights – and even a charity ball! Hosting and planning your own event can be lots of fun and very rewarding, and it can be a great thing to add to your CV too.
Here are our top 10 tips for running a successful event:
1. Choose a date and venue
Use a location that’s convenient and will work well for your event and consider the time of year too. Make sure the date doesn’t clash with other activities going on in the local area.
2. Decide on an event
Take a look at our Hospice Heroes gallery to see what others have already done but feel free to come up with your own ideas – there’s no limit to what you can do.
3. Set a fundraising target
Keep it realistic and achievable and give yourself plenty of time.
4. Invite your guests
The more people you invite, the more money you’ll raise for the hospice – so get busy with those invites!
5. Promote your event
Put up posters and contact your local media to see if they’ll help.
6. Ask for help
Get friends, family and work colleagues involved and give them jobs to do: source raffle prizes, display posters, sell tickets . . .
7. Add Gift Aid
Ask your guests to complete a Gift Aid form for any donations they make. We can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated at no extra cost to you or the donor. Contact the Fundraising team for Gift Aid forms on 0115 910 1008 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
8. Have fun!
The key to a great event and successful fundraising is to enjoy yourself. The more fun you have, the more your guests are likely to give!
9. Say thank you
It’s important to thank everyone involved in the event, so let them know how grateful you are and how much you have raised.
10. Sending your money
Please send cheques payable to “Nottinghamshire Hospice” to: Nottinghamshire Hospice Fundraising Office, 384 Woodborough Road, Nottingham, NG3 4JF. Don’t forget to send us your name, address and event details so that we can say thank you to you.
