Read why Ellie has decided to sign up for our Nepal Trek and Hospice project challenge

Ellie_100In 2015 we are offering you the opportunity for you take on a wide array of challenges in support of our hospice. It gives you the opportunity to do something you will never forget whilst also supporting the work we do, in particular our Hospice at Home Service which can make the difference between someone dying alone, or having a caring hand to hold when they need it most. Ellie, pictured here, has signed up for our Nepal Trek and Hospice Project and she told us her reasons for taking part.

Why did you choose Nottinghamshire Hospice?

On a personal note, my family has been touched by the support hospices offer and although I have never had contact directly with Nottinghamshire Hospice in this capacity I wanted to support a local charity and it seemed to make sense. The impact that life-limiting illnesses can have on a family is vastly underestimated and the more I can do to raise awareness and support such causes the better in my view.

Why did you sign up for the Nepal Challenge?

Every year I set myself challenges and one of them for 2015 was to undertake a charity event that would push my boundaries and the Nepal Trek seemed to fit the bill. Where possible I try to undertake challenges that will help others and has a local link, again another tick in the box.

How do you intend to raise the money?

Much of the fundraising I am planning is drawing on the generosity of local bands and artists to perform gigs across Nottingham and Sheffield. I aim to do at least two open water swims (Great North Swim and either the Great London Swim or Great Manchester Swim) to rise further monies. Through work I attend a number of community events where I intend to do further fundraising.

Are you excited about the challenge?

Absolutely! Surely this goes without saying! As a keen traveller and enjoying meeting new people I can’t wait for November. To volunteer at the Hospice will definitely be the highlight for me to see the support offered across the world and the difference the support makes to families lives.
