Light Up a Life Nottingham – FAQs
Your guide to Light Up a Life Nottingham
Hundreds are expected to join Nottinghamshire Hospice’s first Light up a Life torch lit procession – a chance to remember your loved ones at a special time of year as part of our Care at Christmas fundraising campaign. The event is free and open to everyone.
Where will the event begin?
Light up a Life will begin at St Mary’s Church for a short memorial service starting at 4pm. You’re invited to join us for readings, carols and a short moment of reflection before heading on the short 1 mile walk to Castle Rock Brewery Yard where the Hospice Tree of Lights will be illuminated for the first time.
Feel free to join us at any stage of the event.
What route will the procession take?
The torch lit procession will leave St Mary’s Church for 5.15pm. There are no planned road closures for the event, however please be aware that the route will pass the following areas:
- High Pavement to Maid Marian Way
- Robin Hood Statue past South Nottingham College
- Crossing the A6005 onto Wilford Road
- Left along the canal path towards Carrington Street
- Heading towards our end location at Castle Rock Brewery Yard
For those who wish to join but can’t join us at the start there are two meeting points along the route at the Robin Hood Statue and Nottingham Crown Court.
Dedicated representatives of Nottinghamshire Hospice and the local community will hold our torches, but battery candles and torches will be available to purchase for £2.50 for a candle or £3 for a star light. These will be available at St Mary’s Church from 5pm.
What is the Hospice Tree of Lights?
Throughout November, members of the Nottinghamshire community have been dedicating lights on our Hospice Tree of Lights in memory of their loved ones.
For those who would like to join us just for the Tree of Lights illumination at Castle Rock Brewery/Vat and Fiddle, this service will start at 6pm. Free mulled wine and hot chocolate will be available, kindly donated by Castle Rock. Additional food and refreshments will also be available to purchase from 6.30pm.
If you would like to remember a loved one with a light for our tree in their memory, please visit www.nottshospice.org/light. Please note entries to be placed in the Book of Remembrance for this event closed on Thursday 29th November, however dedications made after this date will be available to view in the book at the hospice during the festive period (and will remain on the online tree indefinitely).
Participants of Light up a Life will also be invited to write their dedication on a message tag which will be displayed at the hospice tree or alternatively if you cannot join us at the event you can leave your dedication on our online tree.
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Castle Rock Brewery Yard, St Mary’s Church, Bank Farm Trees, Sylvia’s Singers and Code Print for all of their support in making this event possible.
