Volunteer drivers needed

If you like driving and have a few hours to spare and want to make a difference to the lives of those with life-limiting illness why not become one of our volunteer drivers?

We’re on the hunt for more volunteer drivers to bring patients to the Woodborough Road centre for day therapy services.

Drivers play a crucial role in supporting our patients and helping them to have a positive experience from the minute they leave the house to when they return home.

Volunteer Coordinator Tessa Marie says: “Our drivers are often the first person patients meet in the morning and the last person they see after their day with us at the Hospice.

“For some patients their first visit may be an anxious time, so a friendly face and understanding attitude from the driver puts them at ease. For some the journey may be their only trip out of the house for the week, so the driver becomes a regular part of someone’s life.”

Although the Hospice mini-buses transport patients who come to the Hospice for the day, the need for additional volunteer drivers at others times of day is growing as more flexible day therapy arrangements take shape.

To become a volunteer driver you’ll need to have been driving for three years or more with no more than three points on their licence. You’ll receive a mileage allowance of 45p per mile, and full training will be given.

If you could provide a couple of hours to help patients get from door to door with us at the Hospice, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch with our Volunteer Services Team on volunteering@nottshospice.org or 0115 910 1008 ext 201 to find out more.
