If you’ve been affected by an incurable illness, either as a patient or a carer/family member, or you are struggling with a bereavement due to an incurable health condition, our Counselling and Emotional Support team are here to help you. You must be over 18 and registered with a Nottinghamshire GP.
Our care is person-centred, non-judgemental and free of charge – it’s a safe space to feel heard and understood. We offer both one-to-one support and peer support groups, and our friendly team can help you decide which might be better for you.
There’s no right or wrong way to approach grief, and everyone deals with things differently. After a bereavement, you may feel a need to talk to someone entirely outside the situation, and that’s why we’re here.
All our services are free. If you’re not referred by a healthcare professional, you can refer yourself by calling 0115 962 1222. Our friendly team will take your details for a member of our bereavement team to arrange an initial assessment
This gives you an opportunity to talk through what is going on and get an idea of the type and level of support you might find helpful. If you then decide you’d like ongoing support, we’ll arrange this at a mutually convenient time.
We offer up to 8 weekly sessions of individual support – either in person, online or by telephone; all arranged at a mutually convenient time.
Our team comprises of both qualified counsellors and student counsellors, along with trained emotional support volunteers.
These free social groups are peer-led, with support from trained staff and volunteers. Sessions offer an opportunity for bereaved people to meet and share experiences with others in a similar situation.
Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one is welcome to attend. These are predominantly social support groups so may not be suitable for those who are very newly bereaved, or who might struggle with listening to other people talking about their own grief.
There’s no need to book, just drop in. We understand that everyone deals with their grief differently so you can come along to the groups for as long as you need to
