As a flexible/bank volunteer driver, you’ll be responsible for collecting patients from their homes and taking them to our monthly Motor Neurone Disease (MND) sessions at the Pauline Davies Centre in Radford and then taking them safely home afterwards.  You will also be responsible for taking clients to counselling appointments in Nottingham and take them home afterwards on an ad-hoc basis.

We are looking for flexible volunteer drivers who can be available at short notice to provide transport as and when required.

  • Helping patients get in and out of your vehicle in line with safe practice and Hospice procedure.
  • Guiding them safely into and from the building.
  • Ensuring patients are comfortable throughout the journey.
  • Putting patients at ease by chatting and listening to them.

What you’ll be doing – Hospice Clients

  • Using your own car to collect clients and take them to counselling appointments.
  • Putting clients at ease by chatting and listening to them.
  • Returning clients to their home address after the counselling session.

Who we’re looking for

  • To be aged between 21 and 65 with at least three years driving experience.
  • Your own car with five doors and an up-to-date MOT.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly personality.

  • Ability to cope with emotional distress in a healthy manner.
  • Reliability, flexibility, initiative and willingness to be part of a team on an ad-hoc basis.
  • A good level of health and fitness.

What you’ll get from it

You’ll have the opportunity to give something back to the community while learning new skills. By driving patients to the sessions, you’ll help them access care and support.
