Coronavirus: a message from our CEO to our patients and supporters

The current and ever changing situation regarding the Covid 19 pandemic is affecting us all, causing huge uncertainty and anxiety among our communities and we know that many of you will be concerned about your own health and the health of loved ones.

For the majority of people the illness will present and impact as a cold or flu and symptoms will be mild, but we are well aware that our patients are particularly vulnerable, so I wanted to set out what we are doing at the hospice to continue providing services to patients across Nottinghamshire while minimising the risk of infection.

Our services

We are working as normally as possible in what is an unprecedented and ever changing situation, and following government guidelines to keep our patients, volunteers and staff safe.

Our Hospice at Home and Hospice Night Support teams are continuing to provide care for patients in their own homes. We are carrying out screening checks over the phone first.

Hospice Day therapy service continues to provide care though this may be delivered in different ways, locations and use of resources, this is led by patient need and will include virtual care using telephone or digital support as well as direct support.

We are contacting people who are referred to us to see how we can meet your needs, and we remain open for referrals.

To speak to a member of our care team please phone 0115 962 1222.

Our Shops

For the moment, most of our shops remain open, others (Wollaton, Radcliffe, Sherwood) have closed due to staff shortages and volunteers needing to self isolate but we are reviewing this on a daily basis. We are grateful to our volunteers who are continuing to support our shops but urge them to be mindful of their own personal situation.

Effect on fundraising

We will need to cancel many of the fundraising events we had planned in the coming months which will have a significant impact on our ability to raise funds. We are also very aware that the situation will have a big affect on those individuals and businesses who currently support us, so we anticipate a significant drop in income. There is currently no extra support available to us from government to meet this gap in funding so we are appealing to our local communities to continue to support us where they can.

If you are able to help, please donate here.

As this is an ever changing situation we are reviewing our approach continuously and will post regular updates on our website when anything changes.

Rowena Naylor-Morrell Chief Executive, Nottinghamshire Hospice.
