Volunteer Roles

We have lots of different volunteering opportunities in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – from working directly with our patients and their families in the hospice, to being out in the community at one of our charity shops. Each role offers the chance to gain experience, give something back and make a difference.

Nottinghamshire Hospice is fully committed to supporting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion best practice within our staff and volunteer workforce, as well as with our patients and supporters. We warmly welcome those from all backgrounds – this diversity is important for our journey and values and enriches the services we offer.

We particularly welcome applicants from minoritised ethnic communities, LGBTQ+ communities, applicants under the age of 40, applicants with disabilities, and male applicants for clinical roles, as they are currently under-represented within our workforce.

eBay Volunteer

Thanks to our amazing volunteers, our shops generated £1 million last year. By volunteering your time, you can help raise vital funds towards this target. £25 generated by eBay sales can provide a patient or carer a complementary therapy treatment. A small amount can make a huge difference.

Volunteer Retail Assistant

Thanks to our amazing retail volunteers, our shops generated over £1 million last year. By volunteering your time in one of our shops you can be part of the team, make new friends and support your local community.

Activity Volunteer

As an activity volunteer in our Wellbeing Team, you’ll help create and organise a varied activity programme for patients. We're looking for confident volunteers who are happy to plan and run activity sessions.

Vehicle Checks Volunteer

As a Vehicle Checks Volunteer, you'll be helping to ensure that our transport fleet is fully operational for our staff to visit patients and families out in the community. Keeping our vehicles in safe working order means we can provide our care to the people who need us and deliver our hospice services with greater effect.

Volunteer Handyperson

Volunteer Handypersons are needed to help with the heavy jobs at Nottinghamshire Hospice.

Volunteer Gardener

If you’re passionate about the outdoors, especially gardening, then this is the role for you! Our beautiful garden at the hospice brings joy and happiness to many people and we’re looking for volunteers to help us keep it looking its best with pruning, planting and general grounds maintenance.

Volunteer Trustees

Do you want to make a difference to people with a life limiting illness, living in Nottinghamshire? Do you want to be part of an amazing charity? Do you have a few hours to spare each month? If you are answering yes to these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join our team of Trustees.

Volunteer Events Assistant

Do you love working with people as part of a team? Would you like to help with the smooth running of our fundraising events? We're looking for volunteers who can bring energy and enthusiasm to this fun and enjoyable role.

Support Services Volunteer

Support Services volunteers provide emotional and bereavement support to adult carers, family and friends of our patients. We’re looking for people who are over 21 years of age, are good listeners and able to offer emotional support.

Volunteer Counsellor

As a volunteer counsellor, you’ll help patients and families take on board the changes they face, and support bereaved families following the loss of their loved one. Providing this service is an invaluable part of the hospice and your role will be guided and supported by the Support Services Development Manager.

Volunteer Patient Escort

As a volunteer patient escort, you’ll be an essential part of the hospice team, responsible for supporting patients who use hospice transport to get from their homes to our Therapy and Wellbeing Service.

Meet and Greet Volunteer

As a meet and greet volunteer, you’ll ensure all patients and visitors have a warm and friendly welcome to Nottinghamshire Hospice. You’ll move between different areas of the hospice to help with the smooth running of the drop-in café and the Therapy and Wellbeing Service.

Volunteer Kitchen Assistant

As a volunteer kitchen assistant, you'll help the hospice provide nutritious light lunches for patients attending the Therapy and Wellbeing Service.

Volunteer Driver

As a volunteer driver, you’ll be an essential part of the hospice team, responsible for collecting patients from their homes and taking them to the Therapy and Wellbeing Service, seeing them safely into the hospice and collecting them after their session. If you’re over 21 years of age, have your own car and would like to help others with your friendly personality and good communications skills, we’d love to hear from you.

Volunteer Complementary Therapist

Volunteer therapists are an invaluable part of our Therapy and Wellbeing team and contribute to the personalised, holistic patient care we provide. Having a team of volunteers enables us to offer a wide range of free complementary therapies to patients and carers.

Volunteer Fundraiser

Are you interested in fundraising? Volunteers assist our creative fundraising team in raising the money needed to provide all of our care free-of-charge. They support the team in day-to-day tasks needed within a busy fundraising team.

Volunteer Administrator

Do you have excellent administrations skills and experience of working in an office environment? Use your talents to support various teams within the hospice and learn new systems and processes along the way!
